Lord Thompson Manor on Vintage Wedding Apparel

Lord Thompson Manor on Dec 10th 2009

The Lord Thompson Manor itself hails from the early twentieth century, so it comes as no surprise that this vintage venue is no stranger to elegant antiques.  Our flexible space can accommodate any style our modern Brides may prefer, but for those who love a bit of vintage in their Weddings, we can recommend a few extra touches of classic, old-fashioned elegance.

A vintage Wedding Dress can be startlingly glamorous.  A Bride can invoke society’s nostalgia for the best qualities of an era by wearing a gown from that period of time.  Some Brides achieve this effect by choosing modern Wedding Dresses that incorporate design elements representative of the desired era.  For example, a Bride looking to incorporate the style of the 1930’s might choose a dress similar in design to those made by Coco Chanel.

Antique and antique-inspired jewelry can also add a dash of vintage beauty to a Bride’s Wedding apparel.  Whether it is a single piece or an entire matched set, a Bride with vintage jewelry proves that old-fashioned can be extremely fashionable.  This can also serve as the Bride’s “Something Old.”  Antique jewelry can be particularly meaningful if it is a family heirloom.

Lord Thompson Manor on Something Blue

Lord Thompson Manor on Dec 10th 2009

For Brides who choose blue as one of their Wedding colors, fulfilling the Something Blue requirement of the old Bridal tradition is simple and effortless.  The Lord Thompson Manor has a few suggestions for the plethora of Brides who don’t choose blue as a Wedding color, but still want to have Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue.

1.  The garter is the most popular place for a Bride to sneak in Something Blue.  The entire garter can be a feminine powder blue, or perhaps just some lace or decorative beading.

2.  When Something Blue is desired, but the color would be obtrusive, there are a few ways to hide it.  A Bride could choose blue lingerie beneath her dress.  She could also stitch some blue thread or beads to the label in her gown.

3.  A Bride who wants to show off her Something Blue can do so through jewelry.  Whether she prefers the shades of sapphires or turquoise, there are endless earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and anklets she can choose from.

4.  One fashionable trend recently has been colored shoes with Brides’ white Wedding Dresses, and this can be the perfect way to incorporate Something Blue.  Chic navy heels can combine tradition with fashion perfectly.

5.  If feet are the way to go, but a Bride has her heart set on a pair of shoes that is decidedly not blue, she can opt for a nice shade of blue polish for her pedicure.  That Something Blue can be as noticeable or as discreet as the Bride likes.
